Biography

Lael Brainard is vice president and director of the Global Economy and Development program at the Brookings Institution, where she holds the Bernard L. Schwartz Chair in International Economics. She has written or edited a number of books, including Too Poor for Peace? Global Poverty, Conflict, and Security in the 21st Century (Brookings, 2007), Security by Other Means: Foreign Assistance, Global Poverty, and American Leadership (Brookings, 2007), and Transforming the Development Landscape: The Role of the Private Sector (Brookings, 2006). Derek Chollet is a nonresident fellow with the Brookings Institution's Global Economy and Development program and a senior fellow at the Center for a New American Security. He is the author of America between the Wars: From 11/9 to 9/11 (Public Affairs, 2008) and The Road to the Dayton Accords: A Study of American Statecraft (Palgrave Macmillan, 2005).
