About this book

This book offers new, creative, and meaningful ways to listen and practice together with communities in a rapidly changing world. Gone are the days of the expert planner who makes decisions affecting entire communities for generations. Increasingly, academics, professionals and community members are acknowledging that multiple perspectives enrich planning outcomes, and that the engagement process itself can create imaginative forums and spaces through which understanding, tolerance and empathy can be nurtured.

Reflecting many aspects of the wide continuum of participatory practice, this book explores the work of planning theorists, researchers and practitioners engaged in the diverse and complex cultural layering of contemporary communities.
