By: Ross Gardner
A book that will both delight and charm. You have perhaps to go back to the works of Richard Jefferies and Edward Thomas, and our own present-day Peter Marren, to read such wonderful descriptions - almost poetry and with a touch of philosophy - about the natural world of Britain: the weather, the sea, the landscape... and the animals and plants that inhabit it.

Ross Gardner was born near Southend in Essex and for as long as he can remember has held a great affinity for the natural world. With a childhood spent experiencing the wild wonders of his local woods, grassland and marshes, this developed over the years into a deeply felt passion. Now a manager of a nature study centre, he imparts his knowledge and love of nature with the young people and others that visit the centre.
