An excellent personal photographic account of insects and other invertebrates observed by the author in various locations, especially Ecuador. Carotti describes the animals in a succinct, engaging way and lards his text with literary quotations suggestive of the bizarre and exotic forms and behaviours of his subjects. Altogether a compelling testimony to the fascination of small creatures.
The title is a reference to Sir Thomas Moffett's Insectorum sive minimorum animalium theatrum of 1634.
Giovanni Carotti graduated in natural sciences from the University of Camerino. He specialises in orthopterans, collaborating with Filippo Buzzetti. Together they have published a checklist of Ecuadorian Caelifera. He is currently working on a distribution atlas of orthopterans in the Italian Marche.
