About this book

Language: Chinese with English summary and scientific nomenclature

Guangxi province, located in the tropics and the subtropics, borders the tropical ocean in the south, and neighbors Yungui plateau in the north. It has plenty of rainfall and many different plants, and is especially rich in reptiles and amphibians.

More than 3300 herpetological specimens belonging to 165 species, 85 genera, 21 families, and 3 orders have been collected from different places in Guangxi during past 30 years. One of these are Palaearctic, 7 are widespread over the Palaearctic and the Oriental realm (4.6%), the rest (95%) belong to species of the Oriental realm. From northern to southern Guangxi, the percentage of species of Central China falls from 12.7% to 2.3% while that of southern Chinese species increases from 32.4% to 81.3%. According to the distribution of reptiles and amphibians in Guangxi, the southern and western districts of Guangxi may zoogeographically be included in the south China region, whereas the northern and eastern district can be indlued in the central China region, the former being south of the tropic of cancer, and the latter north of the tropic of cancer.
