About this book

Language: French

The work of Breton naturalist Jean Cherel was published for the first time in 1969, and was the first book to describe the ladybugs of Brittany. Significantly, his first version was exclusively written in the Breton dialect. This initial decision of the author reinforces the historical character of his work. With more than 60 species cited, two drawings from the author's hand, many varieties described and information on the distribution of species, this publication is an important bio-historical testimony. The synonymy of the mentioned taxa has been added here, as well as a point on the naturalized exotic species present today in Brittany ("Loire-Inferior" included). Respect for the original work by maintaining Breton texts and making available its information in French should allow naturalists, especially Armorican, to discover this endearing family of beetles and make live this Breton language that is still current.
