160 pages, 80 full-page col plates
In the 17th century, the Prince-Bishop of Eichstätt, Germany, created a garden containing all the shrubs and flowering plants known at the time. He then commissioned a picture book of the plants by Basilius Besler. This edition reproduces most of the plates in colour, and gives a full account of the history of this remarkable publishing enterprise.
