About this book

Language: Spanish

This book focuses on the species of sharks, rays, skates, sawfish, lampreys, hagfish, and chimeras found around the Atlantic coast of the Iberian Peninsula and Canary Islands. It is intended for researchers, teachers, students, professional fishers, anglers and anyone interested in the marine environment. The book begins with a chapter on the origin and evolution of fishes, and a description of the most significant anatomical elements of the lampreys, hagfish, chimeras, and sharks and batoids.

In order to make the work didactic and accessible, the authors have chosen for a nested organization of the contents, from general taxonomic levels of order and family, down to the genus and species levels. To facilitate the identification process, there are photographs of all species, identifying the different parameters for each of them, along with common names in different languages, geographical distribution (map), diagnosis, habitat, size, reproduction, significance (social and fishing) and whether it can be dangerous to humans.

Finally, it includes all the synonyms of species names, common names, scientific names, and a glossary of scientific terms.
