About this book

Language: French

This determination key is aimed at both natural area managers and amateur naturalists interested in learning more about identifying exuviae (remains of an exoskeleton after moulting) of Odonata. This is indeed an effective way to check for native species and estimate population sizes.

The first part of the book, devoted to the physiognomy of exuviae, describes their structure and the associated terminology. The second part, which is in the form of a dichotomous key, allows determination of exuviae by going gradually from order, family, genus, to the species (or subspecies) level. The guide is illustrated with over 200 photos, and allows identification of more than 70 taxa or two-thirds of French odonates.

It complements the outstanding books published previously (B. Gerken, K. Sternberg, 1999 and H. Heidemann, R. Seidenbusch, 2002) by offering digital photographs to illustrate the different criteria useful for the determination.
