"Chtěli byste vědět, který motýl poletuje na vaší zahradě, na louce či na pasece v lese nebo co okusuje vaše květiny, zeleninu či ovocné stromky? Uspokojivou odpověď na tyto i jiné otázky poskytne právě tato publikace, určená nejen odborné veřejnosti a amatérským entomologům, ale i všem „obyčejným“ milovníkům přírody. Připravovaná čtyřdílná řada má sloužit nejen jako obrazový atlas a klíč k určování všech tzv. velkých motýlů a jejich housenek ve středoevropském regionu, jejím cílem je i prohloubit u nejširší veřejnosti zájem o tyto atraktivní a zajímavé živočichy a rozšířit znalosti o této bohužel stále více ohrožené skupině hmyzu. Proto kromě popisů a fotografií jednotlivých druhů, a to jak dospělců, tak i larválních stadií – housenek – a ve vybraných případech i kukel, poskytuje i základní informace o jejich rozšíření a způsobu života. Určitou novinkou jsou i rady a doporučení pro chov některých zajímavých nebo atraktivních druhů motýlů.

První díl zahrnuje menší čeledi nočních motýlů, následovat budou tři díly: (II) noční motýli – můrovití, (III) noční motýli – píďalkovití, (IV) motýli s denní aktivitou (včetně nesytkovitých a vřetenuškovitých).
