About this book

William Henry Hudson (1841-1922) was born in Argentina, the son of settlers of US origin. Settling in England in 1869 he later achieved fame with his books on the English countryside, which can be sympathetic and lyrical but also sharply witty. Also an observant naturalist he describes the landscapes and the birds with an affectionate eye and was a founding member of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds.
