About this book

Language: German

In 1995, a floristical investigation of selected port areas in Bremen was conducted. 385 spontanous or subspontanous plant species were detected within the 400 ha area, 39 of which are endangered in Bremen and Lower Saxony. The spectrum of species and the different site forms of the port area are characterized with respect to floristical and ecological aspects. In order to investigate the anthropogenous influence on the floristic composition of the investigation area, a classification concerning immigration time, naturalisation and way of immigration is made.

Due to its diversity of site forms, the warm city climate, frequent disturbaces, lack of competition and the use as a reloading point for seed and food plants, the port areas of Bremen serve as a refuge and potential stepping stone for endangered or rare plant species to disperese from and serve as a habitat for floristical interesting neophytes. For the lattter, possible routes of immigration as well as tendencies of dispersal and naturalisation are discussed.
