New Zealand Journey is a collection of stunning New Zealand photographs presenting a genuinely fresh and original view of the New Zealand landscape. With so many photographers at work in this country, this is a surprisingly difficult task, rarely achieved. Austrian photographers Georg Popp and Verena Hacker have managed this, through a determination to find new and interesting compositions of well-known places, and also through persistence, often waiting days for the right conditions to make a single image.
New Zealand Journey covers all of New Zealand, focusing entirely on the natural world, and includes all of the much-visited scenic icons, including the Far North, Rotorua, Tongariro National Park, Taranaki, Abel Tasman National Park, the length of the South Island's West Coast, Fiordland, Stewart Island, The Catlins, Dunedin, Kaikoura and the Marlborough Sounds.
Popp and Hackner's work is distinguished by their careful and expert use of large format cameras and film, and they are internationally reknown for the extraordinary clarity and detail of their photographs. Georg Popp and Verena Hackner specialize in traditional large-format landscape photography, and have an international reputation for their skill in this medium. Married with two daughters, they are based in Vienna, Austria, where they run their own picture library when not travelling widely.
