An interesting collection of marine fishes, which has now been presented to the museum, was made in 1962 by Mrs. M. J. Cooper, whilst she was living at Betio, Tarawa in the Gilbert Islands. Despite its comparatively small size of 297 specimens, the present collection consists of 75 species, 21 of which, including the new species, are listed as new records for the Gilbert Islands.
