This is the first volume of the Taiwan brachyuran crab catalog series and contains two parts. Part I gives an overview of the crab studies in Taiwan and the updated classification scheme for brachyuran crabs, with key to all the superfamilies and families found in Taiwan. Part II is the species account for the so-called "primitive crabs" of the sections Dromiacea, Raninoida and Cyclodorippoida, and treats eight families, 36 genera and 53 species. All the species of these three sections known from Taiwan and its territory are covered.
