This atlas covers 34 amphibian and 39 reptile species living in France, including Corsican. Next to 73 autochtonous species, the distribution of 8 introduced species (six amphibian and two reptile) is alo given. Each species account contains a distribution map, and at least one photo, an entry written by one or several specialists, and updated information on taxonomy where appropriate. Also included are chapters on fossils, conservation issues, and a red list of amphibians and reptiles of France. There is a transparent plastic sheet that can be overlaid on all the distribution maps included in the back of the book.

Le nouvel Atlas des Amphibiens et Reptiles de France est Ie troisième réalisé par Ia SHF. Il marque un progrès considérable de nos connaissances sur Ia répartition des 34 espèces d'amphibiens et les 39 espèces de reptiles vivant en France métropolitaine, Corse comprise. En plus de ces 73 espèces autochtones, Ia distribution de huit espèces (six d'amphibiens et deux de reptiles) introduites par |'Homme, volontairement ou non, et implantées dans notre pays, est aussi exposée.

La carte de répartition de chaque espèce, accompagnée d'au moins une photographie, est commentée par un ou plusieurs spécialistes. Une mise à jour de Ia Iiste taxonomique accornpagne les fiches espèces. L'ouvrage comprend aussi un chapitre sur les données fossiles et Ia mise en place de l'herpétofaune actuelle dans notre pays; un autre sur les problèmes de conservation et Ia Iiste rouge des amphibiens et reptiles de France.
