About this book

Birds of India is a compilation of photos by Prakash Dubey, one of India's leading creative and nature photographers. This extraordinary collection presents a wide variety of birds – migratory, wetland, forest and those found around habitations all of whom have been photographed painstakingly over a period of years in their natural surroundings. Many of the habitats are being drastically altered due to various pressures. Most people have failed to realise that the litmus test of a healthy environment is the birds. If the birds start to perish, our turn is soon to come.

The book has a very informative and detailed text backed by extensive research, written by Katie Dubey. It imparts a wealth of information, particularly about the Himalayan and other hill birds that are normally difficult to see, complementing the visuals with word images. The captions at the end of the book give detailed information about the pictures. The purpose of the book is to create awareness. It is not merely a book on birds, but, more importantly, a book on the conservation of their environment. It carries an unequivocal message – save these threatened jewels of the natural world.
