About half of the Hong Kong Bird Report 2009/10 is taken up with the Systematic List 2009-10 which covers the 430 Category I & II species recorded in Hong Kong during the period with updated taxonomy where necessary. There are reports for 7 new species for Hong Kong. There are papers covering the identification of a Black-throated / Neumann's Thrush hybrid, The status of Bonelli's Eagle in China with special reference to Hong Kong, Vocalisations of an unidentified cuckoo at Tai Mei Tuk and Identification of a vocalising Phylloscopus warbler on Po Toi.
