About this book

Language: Dutch

Lichens are present in dunes, heaths, and inland dunes remarkably often. This guide contains a treasure trove of information on 81 ground-dwelling species and is intended for use by naturalists and botanists. The book contains 393 colour photos and detailed drawings. Also included is an identification key to all Dutch species of Cladonia (including species such as cup lichen, reindeer moss, and British soldiers) and Peltigera (dog or pelt lichens).

Ground-dwelling lichens are a good indicator of soil acidity. Thus, a description of the habitat of each species is given. The introduction provides an overview of species one can expect in different biotopes such as calcium-rich and calcium-poor dunes, inland dunes, and heathlands.

The second edition has been expanded with an extra 16 species, such as Trapeliaceae from heathlands and additional lichens and cyanobacteria from dunes. The nomenclature follows the Veldgid Korstmossen.
