A historical overview of the geological situation in the Tertiary of the Wanzeberg (including the salt dome of Conow, SW Mecklenburg) is presented, together with activities in the former claypit of the village of Malliss. The hitherto known results of the research into the Oligocene of this locality are elaborated. The present study can only have a descriptive character of the Foraminifera, as all the samples were taken in exposed strata and not in drill holes. For this reason they are only partly useful as stratigraphic tools.
This monograph contains the foraminiferal assemblage from the Rupel Clay (Oligocene) of Malliss with 440 species, subspecies and formae; they belong to 156 genera. All taxa are described and illustrated as camera lucida drawings and SEM photographs. Two species are new to science: Cushmanina mallissensis sp., Gyroidina clodiusin. sp. The description of several species is emended, based on the finds of new material in the outcrop. Stratigraphical, taxonomical and palaeo-ecological problems are discussed. Two levels (the Siphonina reticulata and Asterigerinoides guerichi), which are absent in the outcrop at Malliss, could be identified in the Level VII (1979 Aufschluss Ziegelei, Fd. 22).
