What are the contemporary challenges to rural livelihoods dependent on land and natural resources? How does investigating governance issues shed light on these challenges? This Sida Studies publication presents a collection of papers analysing how rural people have responded to global change and policy interventions in different contexts.
It argues that a deeper understanding of rural development dynamics and natural resource governance would require adding governance more explicitly to the livelihoods approaches discussion, and connecting economic, political, social and cultural dimensions as well as micro-macro linkages.
