About this book

Language: German

This is a reprint of a classical fish fauna, originally published at the end of the 1700s in 12 volumes. The 432 hand-coloured plates have been reproduced here in a reduced size to the best possible standard. The reprint is done in three volumes and encompasses more than 2000 pages of text. The old species names used by Dr. Isaäc J.H. Isbrücker have been revised to match current scientific knowledge. The foreword is by Dr. H. J. Paepke, who as ichthyologist curates the original collections made by Bloch at the Humboldt-Universität in Berlin. Mergus's Bloch's Atlas is a treasure to bibliophiles, ichthyologists and collectors, even as a reprint. Original prints of this work nowadays are worth in the region of € 90 000.

Volume 2 (originally published as parts IV-VII) covers foreign (i.e. non-German) fish species.
