At present, the genus Acraea comprises about 290 species divided into two sub-genera, the sub-genus Actinote and the nominate sub-genus Acraea. The first (for just the Old World) was the subject of Volume 31 and supplement 16 of the current series Butterflies of the World in which this new classification is offered.
