About this book

Language: Contributions in either English or French with bilingual abstracts in English and French

Contains three contributions:

Les Lycaenidae de Guyane : quelques observations sur les biotopes, les comportements et les périodes d’émergence (Lepidoptera: Lycaenidae) (Louis Diringer):
This article is a synthesis of the most important observations made during six stays in French Guiana (2003-2010), particularly in biotopes where Lycaenidae are frequently observed. Their behaviour and flight periods are described.

Considérations générales sur l'évolution de la nomenclature des Lycaenidae néotropicaux et place des Lycaenidae de Guyane française dans la littérature (Lepidoptera: Lycaenidae) (Louis Diringer):
This article is devoted to the Neotropical Lycaenidae classification. The first part underlines the way how, from Linné to Robbins, a modem classification has been set up and how the description of new genera can appear like milestones in the classification's evolution. The second part is dedicated to French Guiana's Lycaenidae data likely to be found through the literature concerning Neotropical butterflies. The purpose of this article is to improve knowledge about this family.

An overview of alar organs in French Guiana hairstreaks (Lepidoptera: Lycaenidae: Theclinae, Eumaeini) (Christophe Faynel & Zsolt Bálint):
A brief overview of alar organs morphology in the Neotropical Eumaeini (Lepidoptera, Lycaenidae, Theclinae) is presented, with historical references to the terminology used up to now. Four types of alar organs have been found on French Guiana hairstreaks: pads, patches, pouches and hair pencils. Some of these alar organs could be associated with androconia or are androconia. Finally, the placement and structure of alar organs are discussed as important or secondary characters in systematics.
