The first edition contained more than 200 species (belonging to 63 families, 148 genera) of common airborne pollens and their plant sources from all over China. This second edition adds another 300 species. Compared to similar atlases published in China and elsewhere previously, the pictures of pollen grains in this atlas were taken from different profiles under light microscope, scan electron microscope and transmission electron microscope; authors also went into the field to collect specimens of pollen, taking close up pictures of magnified florescent and pollinated plants. Pictures of both the pollens and their plants are depicted to facilitate reader recognition.
