About this book

Language: German

The province of Carinthia, due to its geological, climatic and orographic diversity, presents a wealth of habitats for many species of lichens. The present volume Die Flechten Kärntens begins with an overview of the history of lichen research in Carinthia. The special features of lichens which form a peculiar symbiosis of fungi and algaes, their life and their growth patterns, are described. Large-scale natural landscapes, which are still present in Carinthia, offer a large number of lichens sufficient possibilities of life. The occurrence of 169 lichens is presented in more detail with the help of distribution maps and images. There is also a comprehensive list of all lichens discovered in Carinthia (previously 1497 species) with the corresponding literary references.
