Bryophytes have been mapped in the Luxembourg Ardennes ("Oesling"). One hundred and ten square kilometer grid units (IFBL - grid of the former Institut Floristique Belgo-Luxemhourgeois) were chosen within a total area of 826 km². These include mostly deciduous woods, slate-rock, riversides and wet habitats, conifer plantations, stubble fields, isolated trees and some artificial sites, such as ruined castles, exposed mud, slate mines and quarries....The squares were visited many times. The total number of bryophytes known from Oesling amounts to 414 taxa (out of which 401 are known from the chosen squares) and 402 good species; more than 60 new taxa have been found in this region. The total number of records made is 8331; thus 75.7 taxa were found, on  average, in a square.

Characteristic – and partly threatened – bryophyte sites are briefly described. A short statistical analysis of the check-list is carried out (phytogeographv, families, edaphic preferences, substrata  etc..). Taxa are assigned to six frequency classes: important distribution patterns are shown. The richness in species of the HO grid units is examined. Some cumulative maps (Grimmiaceae, Sphagnaceae, suboceanic, basiphileous and acidophileous bryophytes) are commented and finally a phytogeographic synthesis is sketched. Several tables are shown in an annex, as well as all distribution maps.
