Long before the now celebrated birds of John James Audubon, naturalist painter John Abbot was producing intricately detailed and vibrantly coloured studies of flora and fauna that were in constant demand from both the artistic and scientific communities. Abbot's works were essential to the European understanding of early entomology in the 18th and early 19th century. These fascinating drawings have rarely been seen in colour and are published here as part of the new Art of Nature book series.
