On retirement he studied botany and botanical illustration at the University of Sheffield to further a lifetime interest in wild flowers. Distinguishing Wild Flower Families was a culmination of those courses. This is a first publication and second printing of the original. It continues to be popular with both amateur and professional botanists as a simple but useful first step in the identification of British wild flowers.
