About this book

Language: Russian

The author studied a population of soil animals in the northern taiga in the vicinity of November (the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District) from 1999-2003. In 30 natural and anthropogenically modified habitats (different variants of forests, wetlands, burned areas, sand pits of different ages, places of oil) a population of armored mites (oribatid mites), springtails, beetles, ground beetles, and spiders was studied. A total of about 300 species of these taxa were recorded and are highlighted by environmental group, which helps to diagnose the change of speed, direction and stages of the succession process. The soil populations of these northern ecosystems are different from the ones characteristic of more southern biocenosis: the middle and southern taiga. Field experiments by isolating soil samples from microarthropoda showed greater mineralization of soil in their absence. The book discusses the arguments in favor of the separation of the northern taiga biome as a separate, distinct one from the typical taiga and tundra.
