Noel Hoffman is a retired School Principal whose interest in orchids dates back some 53 years when he was teaching at Spencer Park Primary School in Albany. During those early years a great deal of frustration was experienced as it was difficult to identify species, there being too few sketches and paintings available. This frustration led to the publication of Orchids of South-West Australia, following his association with Andrew Brown and the Western Australian Native Orchid Study and Conservation Group. He is a keen orchid photographer and enjoys studying the distribution and special requirements of these fascinating plants.
Andrew Brown is a conservation biologist and taxonomist at the Western Australian Department of Environment and Conservation. He is Curator of the Orchidaceae and Myoporaceae at the Western Australian Herbarium. Andrew is a foundation member of the Australian Orchid Foundation and the Western Australian Native Orchid Study and Conservation Group, and has conducted over 40 years research into the Western Australian Orchidaceae. He is author/co-author of more than 100 journal publications and seven books on the Western Australian flora. In addition, he has collaborated in the description of many new Western Australian orchid species.
