From the preface:
"This new edition precedes two editions published in the years 2001 and 2003. A number of changes and improvements were necessary in the new edition. These include botanical updating besides a few corrections. A new haibtat group of ‘Small Herbs’ has been introduced so that tiny flowers do not appear larger than life. The priority for arrangement of species within a habitat group has been changed from ‘Season’ to ‘Colour’.

The nomenclature of families and species has been updated as per the APG III version of ‘The Plant List’ of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. The varieties and subspecies have been now introduced so that they are compatible with the local floras. A brief introduction to the system of classification of plants has been included. User friendly tabular keys for identification of 35 dominant families have been introduced.

A new layout, a revised format of plant description and new digital images for illustrations have been used. Another 100 species have been added as ‘Allied’ to 500 species of the previous editions. The UNESCO has recently included (within 39 locations) four locations from north western ghats of India as ‘World Natural Heritage’. The denizens of Sahyadri have been made aware of their added responsibility of preserving this natural heritage. This pictorial documentation of Sahyadri flora will help people to know ‘why and what‘ to preserve. The new ‘Flowers of Sahyadri' will certainly enhance the pleasure of flower hunting in the hot spot habitat of north western ghats."
