10 pages, colour illustrations
This first focus frieze title is aimed at children from 3 months plus. Each side on On The Farm appeals to a different developmental stage: Side one is aimed at babies 3 months+ as the five panels have recognisable high contrast black and white images and patterns, all of which will aid visual development in the early stages. Side two is richly coloured and has a beautiful, bright and entertaining scene for slightly older children who can perceive colours and recognise simple images.
Many studies have shown that infants are stimulated by a variety of shapes and patterns. At a very early age, visual perception is still developing so babies tend to show more interest in high-contrast, bold, primary-coloured images. Matching words for each image are in a bold and easy-to read print that makes this a useful book for practising very early word recognition skills.
