The Shetland Isles, lying some 100 miles north of mainland Scotland with the North Sea to the east and the Atlantic to the west, these windswept but incredibly beautiful islands are a Mecca for birdwatchers worldwide. Its been estimated that a million or more seabirds nest on and around the shores of the myriad of islands which make up the group. This film in the Black Country Lad Explores series is a mixture of video, still images and wildlife sounds woven together to form a sumptuous introduction to the many birds, mammals and plants (some of the latter found nowhere else in the world) which make a home during the Summer or 'simmer dim' there.
