About this book

Language: Italian

There are many books on flowers, fewer on trees and even fewer monographs on a single forest species. Yet each of us remembers a tree (or tree species) in particular, that more than others has sparked interest in observing when it bears leaves and flowers in the spring and produces fruit in the fall. Watching it, one will have felt the need to deepen one's knowledge and this means that it is understood that a tree is much more than what we can see with our eyes. Our sight, touch, smell and hearing help us, but by themselves, without the awareness of what the tree for the forest ecosystem, we will never truly understand the importance of its presence and be enthusiastic for these large plants, which are irreplaceable companions for life on Earth.

If one looks carefully, one remains fascinated, but in order to understand the real importance one must learn what a tree is, how it is structured, where and how it lives, how it grows, how it reproduces and, in the end, how it dies.

This book, which the author hopes is sufficiently complete and interesting, is both useful and attractive, and still suitable as a reference book. It is enriched with photographs and drawings, and deliberately written in a language accessible to all. It is dedicated to one of the most beautiful and important plants of the Dolomites: the larch, and is above all an invitation to a more careful observation of the plants of the forest; of its beautiful and showy flowers, and its ephemeral, large woody parts, whose longevity often exceeds many times that of humans.

Il Larice is therefore an open door on scientific learning, and written for those who truly love nature and the mountains.
