It details order, family, habits and identifying features of Icelandic birds, and gives information on habitat, breeding areas, population, clutch size, and incubation period. It also features descriptions of birds, variations in plumage by season and age, and descriptions of bills, feet, eyes, flight, wingspan, length and weight, and behaviour and calls. Duration of stay, breeding season, and fledging period are given in diagrammatic form.

Maps show breeding distribution, winter distribution, and areas visited. A separate section shows eggs of Icelandic birds in real size, as well as nests and young. Also included are Icelandic breeding birds, passage migrants, winter visitors, summer visitors, and annual vagrants.
