About this book

Language: Chinese

The Classification Outline of Scolytidae from China is based on a book published in 1984, and covers four Asian bark beetle families, 42 genera, 204 species and subspecies. It has important practical value for the identification, prevention and treatment of bark beetles on trees and associated diseases; furthermore many of the included species are widely distributed outside the relevant area. The book is also of great significance for quarantine measures at ports, to recognize, identify, and intercept a non-Chinese species of small beetles.

The clear, wide-ranging, detailed descriptions, covers the country's major forest species that are home to bark beetles, and will be helpful in recognition and identification of bark beetles. It will also be helpful to further basic research on the taxonomy and biology of bark beetles, and more effectively get a grasp on important bark beetle species, their distribution, and the development of management strategies to better protect the country's forest resources.

Summary in Chinese:
The Classification Outline of Scolytidae from China,《中 国小蠹科分类纲要》一书基于1984年出版的《中国经济昆虫志第二十九册鞘翅目小蠹科》一书,根据国际上分类变动,又收集新近研究的成果,以纲要的形式, 对目前国内已公开发表的小蠹重新进行分类理定,介绍了小蠹虫的形态特征、生活习性和已知类群不同分类阶元的检索表,包括4亚科、42属、204种及亚种; 并且对于小蠹虫、传病与植物检疫也作了扼要的阐述,因此对我国林木上小蠹虫识别及其发生、防治具有重要实用价值;再者其中有较多种类也广泛分布于境外的相 关地区,为此在口岸检疫时,在截获小蠹的鉴定及一些检疫性的小蠹的非中国种的确认中,也具有重要意义。
