New Manual of Bryology (2-Volume Set)

About this book

This Manual represents a cooperative attempt to not only evaluate the present status of the field but to create a plateau from which a new impetus for research can spring. One of the current clichés is that in science new knowledge accumulates at an ever-accelerating rate, necessitating a stock-taking at shorter and shorter intervals. The numerous symposium volumes covering almost all aspects of biology reflect this. Such symposia, however, usually represent an accretion of special interest papers, and not a conscious attempt at synthesizing a comprehensive "status report". It has been a major challenge to compile a volume in which nearly all of the various aspects of bryology are so covered that a reasonably integrated work results.
