About this book

The Land Snails of Seychelles covers all the snails (non-marine, shelled gastropods) recorded from Seychelles (including the Amirantes and Aldabra). Species considered to be marine in habits and those lacking an external shell are excluded. The Land Snails of Seychelles aims to provide a suitable identification guide for use in the field. A more detailed guide including both shelled and shell-less forms and detailed, verified distributions is planned.

The information contained here is based on recent fieldwork and observations of captive specimens together with details derived from previous works on the subject and from various existing collections. The sources used are listed in full in the bibliography.

In the text there are detailed descriptions of the shell and, for some species, the external features of the body This is followed by brief descriptions of the habitat in which the relevant species occur and a distribution of the species.
