From the preface:
"India is rich in wildlife with its exclusive, fascinating and diverse ecosystem. It is among the twelve mega biodiversity countries of the world. The country’s wildlife is extended over the evergreen forests of North East India to the barren deserts of Rajasthan and from alpine forests of the Himalaya to the Western Ghats. There is a general lack of knowledge in the field of conservation of nature and the values and benefits of wildlife in our country especially in the North Eastern States and Mizoram in particular. The Government of India has always been sensitive and has taken several initiatives towards preservation of forests and wildlife in the country from time to time. But the ideals and goals for the future cannot be realized if we are contented with the present. It is also important to focus that the future of wildlife research in North East India must be built by the younger generation who will be well updated and further by students aspiring to become life scientists.
An effort in this direction was made by the Department of Environmental Science, Mizoram University and Department of Zoology, Pachhunga University College by organizing a National Seminar on “Issues of Wildlife Conservation in India with special reference to Mizoram” from the 24th - 25th April, 2014 at Mizorarn University Campus, Tanhril, Aizawl, Mizoram. This book is the outcome of the papers presented in the seminar and mainly contains original research work by the presenters along with some articles of the presenters from various fields."
