About this book

Language: French

The French region of Alsace lies in the east of the country and borders Germany and Switzerland. More than 10 years after the first edition of the Red Book of endangered nature in Alsace, this updated version is the reference awaited both by amateur naturalists and people in charge of environmental issues. Four years of work and the participation of 19 organisations and more than 120 experts have been necessary for the publication of this new Red Book.

Conducted under the coordination of the Office des Données Naturalistes d’Alsace (ODONAT), this book is the most complete inventory to date on biodiversity of the region, since it has an overview of 16 groups of fauna, flora and fungi, and is a huge inventory covering over 8500 species! It obviously include the most well-known mammals, birds, amphibians and reptiles, but also groups such as mollusks, insects, vascular plants and fungi.

This publication again sounds the alarm for the most endangered biodiversity and the most fragile Alsatian natural heritage. It is addressed to all citizens for the purpose of awareness and information, as well as elected officials and managers, offering them a decision-support tool to guide regional conservation policies.
