This book portrays the 55 native orchid species of Alsace and Lorraine in north-eastern France. The book opens with a historical, geographical and ecological presentation of the regions covered which is followed by a description of the main features of orchids and the threats facing them.

Each species is then presented in detail, showing numerous colour photos, an accurate distribution map, information on status, etc. Boxes focus on a particular aspect of biology, ecology or historical anecdotes.

Added to this is the description of 18 sites where these fascinating plants, but also other natural treasures, can be seen in the wild. On the cover flap, a summary table shows the flowering times of all orchids at a glance and summarises the sites where they are present to help you prepare your outings.
