About this book

Language: English

During the last few decades there has been a resurgence of interest on medicinal and aromatic plants across the globe owing to their demands, either for use in different health-care systems or for manufacture of various health-care products. Being one of the biodiversity rich regions of the Indian subcontinent and one of the world's biodiversity hot-spots, Northeastern India harbors a plethora of medicinal and aromatic plants. Works on different aspects of medicinal and aromatic plants of Northeast India focusing on their conservation, cultivation, sustainable development, processing market link-up, inventorisation, bioprospecting etc., and even application of biotechnology have been carried out in different institutions and organizations for their promotion and development. However, no unified elfort has been made so far to bring together all the relevant aspects of medicinal and aromatic plants for incorporation in policy decisions for the development of the sector in this region.

NEDFi, by organizing a national seminar on the 9th & 10the of February, 2010 has tried to bring together the researchers, academics, policy makers, cultivators, crude drug dealers and representatives from pharmaceutical industries for the development of the medicinal and aromatic plants sector in the region. The articles contributed on this occasion by the experts in their respective fields are compiled and presented in this publication as a handy reference. There are all together 31 articles presented in five chapters.
