About this book

Language: German

Unbeknownst to most, animal and plant species from other continents immigrate with us. Some of them like it so well here that they multiply rapidly and suddenly cause considerable damage: They harry, indeed displace, the native flora and fauna, they damage our crops, they clog pipes, bring down embankments, cause people and animals diseases for which we as Europeans are not prepared. In some cases, the alien invaders were deliberately imported and released by man, but many others are stowaways of the global trade in our environment. This confronts us with species that are particularly adaptable, proliferate especially quickly and often have no natural enemies.

This book portrays 24 species of animals and plants that cause problems in Europe and whose control is a major challenge. However, it also shows the paths that have to be taken so that the alien invaders cannot expand indefinitely.
