About this book

Language: Portuguese

Knowing the fauna of an ecosystem threatened by human activities is one of the important steps for their conservation. This guide aims to assist in the identification of the snakes that occur in the Brazilian Cerrado and present information on their biology. It is recommended therefore to readers who may come into contact with snakes in this biome and other stakeholders in these animals. The photographs were selected to highlight the main external characteristics (colour and shape), allowing comparison with the animal found by the reader. The icons that accompany the photographs present information on morphology and biology of each species. The symbols are easy to remember and contribute to the identification. Some of this information has not yet been published in scientific journals, and is based on the authors' experience in field studies or the laboratory.
