This book covers the mycoflora in the three genera Hygrophorus, Hygrocybe and Cuphophyllus in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, an Italian region bordering Austria, Slovenia and the Adriatic. It treats 83 species, with each species being given a double-page spread. On the left page is a high quality photograph of the species and description while on the right-hand page is either a painting of the species or sometimes a habitat shot, along with a distribution map and photograph of the spores. A high proportion of the Hygrophorus species and all the Hygrocybe species included are British with the addition of species more commonly found in the southern European countries.
The text is in Italian throughout and the descriptions include a few synonymies, the results of genetic studies. Furthermore, where known, habitat and tree associations and also etymology of the specific name is given. There is an introduction with diagrams of microstructures followed by dichotomous keys to genera and species.
