About this book

Language: Bilingual in English and Chinese

From the preface:

"Zhejiang Province is located in the southeast of China, on the edge of the East Asian continent. It covers about 101.8 thousand km2 of land area and 260 thousand km2 of sea area. The complex geological structures and fully developed stratigraphic sequences make this place store lots of valuable paleontological resources. Until 2011, ten golden spikes GSSPs (Global Boundary Stratotype Section and Point) have been defined in China by the International Union of Geological Sciences, and three of them, Meishan of Changxing, Huangnitang of Changshan and Duibian of Jiangshan, are in Zhejiang Province. The Cretaceous dinosaurs, Permian fish fossils and animal remains of Quaternary cultural sites are highly valuable worldwide.

Zhejiang Museum of Natural History is one of a handful of provincial museums of natural history in China. With great endeavors made by generations of its staff over the past eighty years, Zhejiang Museum of Natural History has now become a nationally famous museum of natural history with modern rationale and unique characteristics of Zhejiang Province. It gradually develops into two branches: life science and earth science, whose aims are collecting specimens, researching, displaying and publicizing. The coming year of 2012 is Year of Dragon, and as a gift to the public, Zhejiang Museum of Natural History will organize an exhibition with the name of “Dinosaurs Walking in Zhejiang” about dinosaur fossils of Zhejiang Province. Zhejiang Province will be introduced in that event, including the geology and geography of Zhejiang, introduction to dinosaurs and their footprints as well as pterosaur footprints. In order to coordinate with the exhibition, we publish the book of Dinosaurs Walking in Zhejiang: Dinosaur fossils of Zhejiang Province, which is compiled by Dr. Jin Xingsheng and his group. By dint of this, we hope that we could communicate deeply with other experts and dinosaur fans."
