About this book

Language: German

Martens, polecats, minks and weasels are nimble animals and agile hunters. They are – with the possible exception of the stone marten, which often resides in residential areas and causes trouble there – difficult to observe. This may be one reason that in many places there is little knowledge of on population levels of different species. Except for stone marten and minks, most available evidence for the other points to a decline. They were therefore at European level included in lists to either limit their use or offer absolute protection.

This book aims to fill gaps in knowledge and introduce this almost invisible co-tenant of our cultural landscape. Information about their lifestyle and habitat, reproduction, diet and hunting strategies is complemented with stories about their living together with man, on the hunt for their pelts, research experiences, partnerships and conflicts in urban areas and the threats and most recent conservation efforts.
