This is the first time the Finnish beetle fauna of click beetles, false click beetles (Eucnemidae), false metallic wood-boring beetles (Throscidae), and bright metallic jewel beetles (Buprestidae) are presented in book form. This book presents these four beetle tribes from the whole of Finland, a total of 114 species. All the species are shown with a photo, distribution map and rich species profile, detailing, amongst other things, ways of life, flight time, the abundance and the conservation status. This book presents all information known on these beetles. This also includes one of Europe's great beetle rarities, Hylochares cruentatus, the presence of which has been the basis of the establishment of protected forest in Finland.

Click beetles, false click beetles and Throscidae have the unique ability to jump. They have a small spine on the prosternum that can be snapped into a corresponding notch on the mesosternum, which allows the supine beetle to launch himself up to half a meter in the air with incredible speed. A sudden change in posture and snap can remove these beetles straight from the grip of the ants or spider silk. The beautiful jewel beetles can not jump, but they are often equally quick and skillful pilots.

Some of the species in the book are general forest and meadow dwellers that anyone can find, and for which this book can help to determine them to species level. Some of the species are both rare and endangered. This book allows you to dive into this beautiful and wonderful world of insects.

Naksuen hyppivät sepät, sepikät ja rikkasepät sekä kirkkaan metallinhohtoiset jalokuoriaiset ovat ensimmäistä kertaa löytäneet tiensä kirjan sivuille. Tässä kirjassa esitellään näiden neljän kovakuoriaisheimon koko Suomen lajisto, yhteensä 114 lajia. Kaikista lajeista on tunnistamista helpottava kuva, levinneisyyskartta sekä runsas tietopaketti muun muassa elintavoista, lentoajasta, runsaudesta ja uhanalaisuudesta. Käsissäsi on tietoteos, jonka sivuilla on kaikki näistä kovakuoriaista saatavissa oleva tieto. Mukana on myös yksi Euroopan harvinaisimmista eläimistä, halavasepikkä, jonka esiintymän perusteella Suomessa on rauhoitettu metsää.

Sepillä, sepiköillä ja rikkasepillä on ainutlaatuinen kyky hyppiä. Niillä on vatsapuolella pieni tappi, jonka avulla selällään oleva kuoriainen voi naksauttaa itsensä jopa puolen metrin korkeuteen uskomattomalla nopeudella. Naksautuksen synnyttämä äkillinen painopisteen muutos ja tärähdys irrottavat sepän linnun nokasta, muurahaisten otteesta tai hämähäkin seitistä. Korumaisen kauniit jalokuoriaiset eivät osaa hyppiä, mutta ne ovat usein nopeita ja taitavia lentäjiä.

Osa kirjan lajeista on yleisiä metsien ja niittyjen asukkeja, joita kuka tahansa voi löytää ja nyt kirjan avulla määrittää lajilleen. Osa lajeista taas on harvinaisia, uhanalaisiakin. Kirjan avulla voit sukeltaa näiden kauniiden hyönteisten ihmeelliseen maailmaan.
