2118 pages, 408 b/w line drawings

It contains 12,541 synonyms of valid species names and vernacular names in Italian. The taxonomy is up to date and follows the reent APG III classification.
The description of each plant species follows the following pattern:
- Detailed morphological description of all species
- Major habitats adopted by the species
- Altitudinal range of the habitat
- Month of flowering/dispersal of spores
- Political regions in which the plant species is present
- General distribution area of the species
- Phytosociological units in which the species occurs
To improve readability, abbreviations have been used sparingly in the text. In addition, all technical terms are explained in a concise glossary. An introduction to the external morphology of plants is provided to aid understanding of the taxonomic characteristic used in the keys of the determination of the plant species. 408 line drawings make it easy to comprehend even complex structures. In case of incomplete specimens (flowers or fruits not present) a thorough description of the species is provided to offer alternative identifying characters instead. Numerous nomenclatural synonyms are linked to the valid species name.
Apart from the botanical community, horticulturalists, gardeners and landscape architects will benefit from this flora. Students in biology, forest sciences, agriculture and pharmaceutical sciences will have a tool for determining plant species directly in the field.
